Benefits of Homesteading
Homesteading is a great way to live more self-sufficiently. It also helps to reduce your stress levels.
However, it can be intimidating if you’re just starting out. You may have a lot of questions and aren’t sure where to start. Fortunately, there are some concrete first steps you can take right now that will get you started on your homesteading journey!
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District will be hosting a series of Half Acre Homesteading classes.
These classes aim to teach anyone how they can utilize the space and resources available to them to become more self-sustainable.
The first class on Seed Starting will be held at 6 p.m. March 28 at the Community Room at the Ohio Valley Mall.
This class will cover the basics of starting your garden plants from seed indoors, how to care for them and tips on transplanting. This class will be taught by Shelley Rockwell of The Flower Gardens.
The second class is a garden tour of Jason and Alicia Williams’ property outside of Barnesville. At this class, participants will discuss gardening using raised beds and a high tunnel system and be able to tour the gardening area. This class will be held at 6 p.m. July 13.
The third class of this series will be about Seed Saving at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at Barkcamp State Park.
The Belmont Soil and Water team will teach participants how to harvest and save seeds from your garden.
