Therapeutic Gardens A Note
Horticultural therapy is a proven practice. The therapeutic benefits of gardening have been known since ancient times. Benjamin Rush was one of the signers of The Declaration of Independence. He is often referred to as the father of American psychiatry. He was the first to document the positive effects of gardening on mental illness patients in 19th-century.
The therapeutic garden is an environment that has a high number of plants. It was created for healing interactions with the natural world. The garden design can determine whether interactions are passive or active depending on the user’s needs. There are many types of therapeutic gardens, including healing, rehabilitation and enabling.
Garden Therapy is also known by Therapeutic Gardening. This is the intentional use and care of plants and gardens to promote health and well-being. Plants are used therapeutically in the field of horticultural therapy. American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA) defines standards and qualifications for this profession.
What are your favourite plants?
Calendula, lavender and lavender are great for your home and kitchen. You can also use calendula for healing salves or infused oils to control pests and keep them away. Rosemary and garlic are valued for their beauty and durability in the garden. Ground cherries (butterscotch pin) are delicious. I also enjoy the fun way they can harvest them (collecting their papery shells is like an Easter Egg Hunt). Alliums are my favourite flower. By drying starburst and pompom-shaped flowers, you can make crafts from them. They are all favorites of pollinators so they have many uses.
Everything is possible with plants In spring and summer, I make unusual and unexpected containers and hanging baskets. This includes a straw strawberry wreath, an annual-filled straw bag and a hanging birdcage container. I make plant-based beauty products all year, including soaps, lotions, and lip balms. It’s fun to harvest botanicals from my gardens in order to stock my home pharmacy. I can use the infused oils and dried herbs throughout the year in countless recipes as well as for gifts to my family.
