Starting A Vegetable Garden
The first step in starting a vegetable garden is to choose a location that gets sufficient sunlight. Most vegetables need at least six hours of direct sun a day to thrive.
Decide what type of produce to grow based on your climate, space, tastes and level of expertise. Start small, and only grow what you know you and your family will eat!
Learn how to be a successful vegetable gardener in a no-cost virtual program from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on March 8.
The presentation is the second in the Garden Learning Series offered by the University of Illinois Extension, Solid Waste Agency of Lake County and the Lake County Forest Preserve District held the second Wednesday of each month through November. The March program teaches how to grow healthy, productive plants and tend your garden. Tips include location/layout; preparation; recommended varieties; property planting; pest control, watering and harvesting.
