Organic
Farming is a type of gardening that relies on natural fertilizers rather than synthetic chemicals. This helps to build soil fertility and discourage pests.
Modern
Gardening is a common practice today, and can be a mix of traditional techniques and technological advances. Some modern gardens also use pesticides and chemical soil treatments.
It’s not every day you come across a gardening hack that’s equal parts genius and entertaining. As someone who lives in a tiny New York apartment with zero outdoor space, I am now actively on the hunt for a piece of land and a power drill. My grandmother would be proud but skeptical. Don’t worry grandma, I learned everything I need to know from @gardengranny0 on TikTok.
With 21 million views and counting, the video captures 73-year-old @gardengranny0 furiously drilling holes into her lawn with a BOSCH HD18-2 Two-Speed Hammer Drill, all while protecting her knees with foam pads. She’s planting Crocus bulbs: dropping one in each hole and then using the same drill to swiftly push the bulb down into the hole, dropping another one on top for good measure. The key is a very wide bit–it looks to be over an inch wide—so it pushes the bulb rather than skewering it. Planting this is way quicker than using a shovel, and allows her to effectively scatter the flowers all over her lawn. Needless to say, the results are stunning.
The TikTok community is digging the fun hack and the garden granny herself. “I LOVE U GARDEN GRANNY,” writes @growithjessie. While @riztok788 comments: “that lawn got hand embroidered,” which is charmingly accurate.

Her daughter started the TikTok account in order to share her mother’s unconventional garden secrets with the world. “My mom spends 8 hours a day in her garden. She puts so much effort into caring for flowers and insects,” she writes in the caption. Her daughter later posted a follow-up video to the power drill one, saying, “Never in her life would she have thought so many people would ever come to see her garden. She can’t stop crying! Thank you ❤️.” We can’t wait to see what other gardening hacks this granny has up her sleeves!
Want to try it at home? Crocus bulbs need to be planted in the fall for early spring blooms. Order some this summer, get a power drill with a nice wide bit, and go to town. Then count the days till the last frost.
