The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has announced the winner of the RHS Chelsea Sustainable Garden Product of the Year Award 2024, an award highlighting the importance of sustainability and ethical consumerism within the horticultural industry.
As part of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024, POTR’s self-watering plant pot has been crowned the winner by a team of experts including Professor Chris Harrop OBE and Deborah Meaden, who presented POTR founder Andrew Flynn with the award.

Andrew, formerly a Dyson engineer, gave up his job last year to focus on POTR, which creates flat-pack origami sustainable plant pots made from recycled polypropylene and cotton that would have otherwise ended up in landfill.
Deborah Meaden praised the pots, saying: “You can see they’ve thought about absolutely everything – sustainability was designed in. It’s a brilliant material that they’re using; it’s recycled, and it can be recycled again. But it looks cool and it’s flat packed and can go through your letterbox… I’m in!”
Once assembled, the origami pots have a wicking cord that enables your plants to self-regulate their own water intake.
The judging criteria for the RHS Chelsea sustainable product award included:
- Innovative, intelligent and attractive design
- Whether there was a need for the product
- The sustainability of the product’s supply chain and carbon footprint
- Durability and performance
