Red Bluff Garden Club collaborates with the Tehama District Fair each year to put on a National Garden Club Flower Show at the fair. The Floriculture Building was filled with fragrant flowers and plants, recording over 415 total entries this year, an increase of about 85 entries over last year.
The Floriculture Building was decked out with beautiful signage of the “Stars, Stripes, & Fair Delights” theme to welcome visitors into this horticultural world. The Floral Design classes at Corning High School built a red, white, and blue balloon display that arched the entryway. A stacking display of themed tires and flowers was outside the entry. Visiting this building is always a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the other fair activities!
Junior entries were higher in nearly all divisions! Since the fair is really all about the youth, this is so great. Juniors from pre-school through age 17 can enter, either through 4-H groups, individual, or in their school classes. Thank you to the parents, 4-H advisors, and teachers who help and encourage these kids. There were so many outstanding entries in all divisions, from individual cut flowers to some very intricate fairy gardens!
The RBGC would like to acknowledge the hard work of Emily Brown and Vanessa Rico from Corning High School, and Lacy Trunnel from Red Bluff High School! The beautiful arrangements of all types and sizes really add to our show! The creativity and talent of these students is really something to see!
This year, the Los Molinos FFA students entered several fairy gardens to add to the show! These teachers are making a difference in the lives of their students while teaching them amazing skills in floral arranging and horticulture. Their continued support of the Fair Flower Show makes it such a success! And we know they are also planting seeds for future gardeners and plant lovers!
Any adults may enter the fair floriculture divisions. Adults and Juniors are judged separately, but judges use the same guidelines and principles. The four Container Plant Horticulture Division awards, first place, Best of Division, and NGC Grower’s Choice Rosettes, were received by Judy Paul, Audrey Fortune, Debbie Ross, and Judy Liebert. Liebert also received the NCG Horticultural Award of Excellence and Best of Show.
The Arboreal Division’s top awards were received by Judy Paul. The Cut Flower Best of Division Rosettes and NGC Awards of Merit were won by Suzy Brooks, Dottie Renstrom and Judy Paul. In Floriculture Garden Designs, Trudi Morris won the Best of Division and NGC Botanical Arts Horticulture Rosette. There were nearly 200 entries in the Horticultural Divisions.
Over 80 entries were received in the four Design Divisions, including many first-time novice participants, which is wonderful! There are classes for Novices, Intermediates, and advanced, and this year, we added an Open Class, which seemed popular. Fran Galantine, Renstrom, and Paul received top awards.
Botanical Arts had some unique entries. This is a fun division, allowing much freedom and creativity! Please consider an entry here next year as we would love to “grow” this division. Jill Cruz, Renstrom, and Paul entered these classes and received awards.
In addition to Floriculture arrangements, there were a few attractive educational exhibits (exhibition, not judged) as well as a board recognizing three long time Red Bluff Garden Club members. Kathy Bramhall, Galantine, and Joie Raymond have been members, judges, designers, and more, for many years! Congratulations to these ladies.
Thanks to all the Red Bluff Garden Club members who worked hard to bring entries, set up the display tables, take in entries, and help with clerking details and clean up! Special thanks to the judges who came from Anderson, Chico, Colusa, Davis, Gerber, and Santa Rosa. A big thank you to the Tehama District Fair for partnering with our club to sponsor this show. It is so nice to be able to showcase our local talents as well as educate the public about flower shows and horticulture. We look forward to doing this again next year and hope that even more community members will consider entering their plants, flowers, and designs!
