OSSEO, Wis. (WEAU) – Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden is connecting with area farmers.
Van Orden toured a family farm in Osseo Thursday afternoon.
Shane Goplin and his family own the corn, soy, and alfalfa farm, and they spoke with representatives about the current needs of farmers.
This comes as the House Committe on Agriculture passed the 2024 Farm Bill just days ago, and Van Orden shared some key aspects of the bill with WEAU.
“We updated some programs that help formerly incarcerated people get job training so they break the cycle of recidivism,” Van Orden said. “We’re allowing people who are convicted of drugs crimes to have access to SNAP benefits so they don’t go out and commit more crimes, and we’ve moved the age from 18 to 21 so college students can access these programs.”
The 2024 Farm Bill is still months away from becoming law as lawmakers have until September 30th to complete the bill or vote on an extension of the previous Farm Bill.
