Sharing the initiatives, Minister for Forest Animsh Debbarma on Tuesday said that the largest flower garden of North East India would be established at Purba Takchaya ADC Village under Tulashikhar Forest Range of Khowai district.
He said, five lakh trees would be planted in 5 minutes on July 5 by involving the public, various institutions like schools, colleges, NGOs and line departments as part of Van Mahotsav- 2024. Besides, road-side avenue plantations with fruit-bearing and flowering tree species would be taken up all along recently widened National Highways in the state.
Debbarma said, a multi-utility hall would be constructed at Baramura eco-park under Khowai district as a tourist attraction.
He said, tree seedlings would be distributed at free of cost to schools, colleges, pan military forces, army, and other institutions for planting in public premises and seedlings would be sold at Rs. 2.5 per seedling from Forest Nurseries for planting in private land during the month of July, being the month of Van Mahotsay.
The Sepahijala Zoological Park would be modernized with Rs. 6 crore from Special Capital Assistance and State Plan, he said, adding that promotion of eco-tourism would be undertaken at Atharamura and Jampui Hills on priority basis.
According to the Forest minister, livelihood activities would be taken up under various Externally Aided Projects implemented by the Forest department with a financial involvement of Rs. 300 crore.
Speaking to the reporters, he said, the Forest department has achieved a revenue generation of Rs. 17 crore and contributed to the state exchequer.
